So I ordered a new lens

Tue Nov 10, 2009, 11:19 AM
its a discontinued model, 35mm image circle so I can use it on my film bodies as well. its basically the best quality I could find for the price and zoom range.

what'd I pick? Tokina 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 AF 193 which will be equivalent to a 30.4-56 The lens has a 98.7-63.5 degree view angle based on the 35mm image circle so the equivalent will be about 61.7and ought to feel muchmuch wider than my 35-80's 39 degree view angle equivalency.

Its seems to be a really solid lens, its written up as one and reviewed as one as well as looks to be one. Which is good, as It'll probably stay in my inventory for some time. the 3.5 max aperture will also be handier then my 35-80's 4.0. As I believe I can shoot at the skatepark with my 50 at 1/250 f3.2 iso 1600 in the better lit areas and still get decent enough exposure. That basically translates into me being able to shoot out there with my wide and not have to be 10-20 feet away minimum like I have to bee with the 50mm(80mm equivalent). I was thinking about, and still am considering wide angle converters. Although at this point I am much more likely to get a .5x or .7x and use it more to correct for the aps sensors crop value than trying to go super wide with a .45x .4x .38x or a .35x. Either way I will try to find one large enough to accommodate the 77mm threads on my wide and use step down rings to use it on my other lenses as well. Even though wide angle adapters don't lend themselves to higher quality images necessarily, they certainly give you some more affordable flexibility with what you do have. So It's still on the list.

While I'm at it I found that they make a .20x fisheye converter you can pick up for about 60 bucks and compared to the 900 dollars it would cost to get a 8mm fixed f3.5 sigma circular fisheye lens I'd say its worth the fall backs
